Oh Shit!!

When going to the shop yesterday, I was half way round a blind corner when it was like someone had dumped a ton of dogshit on the pavement, so I did an emerency swerve and took a tumble off the kerb onto the road, I used my hands to break the fall but you know, I ain't as lightweight as I used to be. After getting up and doing an assessment I noticed I had a pain in my right fingers and slight pain in my left wrist. Other than that I thought I'd got away with only my pride injured. I did my shopping without issue (apart from normal crap) and although I had an issue getting my 38 kilo rucksack onto my back with my dodgy right fingers, I made it home.

At home my fingers on my right hand got worse for a while making it difficult to grasp things but my left wrist was not too bad. The next day (today) I got up at 8 but by 9 my left wrist was swollen to twice normal size and rediculous pain. To my horror I noticed I only had two aspirins left but took them anyway, which helped for a while but later when they wore off the pain returned. I could either put up with the pain or go to the shop and buy painkillers. I don't like going out unless absolutely necessary for obvious reasons but this was one of those occasions, especially as it was Sunday afternoon and they were not expecting me to be going out.

After mastering the art of getting dressed with one slightly dodgy hand, I ventured out, just as expected for a Sunday deserted streets etc. etc. Got my painkillers but on the way back, although there were no state joggers or cyclists, the red jacket brigade were out in force. They must be on permanent standby with their red jackets on the coat hanger amidst all the normal jackets, easy to spot.

So the pain and swelling in my left hand and wrist is receding now and I am starting to regain use of it. In the absence of any (safe) madical attention or a home made X-ray machine and with my doctors hat on, I am going to conclude that my wrist is not broken but just badly sprained!
