It is of course the fatal flaw in the hereditary system, where extreme power and wealth is passed on from one generation to the next.
The only way you can infiltrate such a system is to marry into it. However to stop this from happening, they only marry into distant relatives up to and including cousins. Over time this makes them 'weird' as described above and it's this interbred 'weirdness' that gets them blackmailed!!!
